Wessex Regional Genetics Laboratory

The Wessex Regional Genetics Laboratory (WRGL) at Salisbury District Hospital provides an accredited laboratory testing service for a core population of 2.6 million in the South Central Region of England. We also host one of the two National Genetics Reference Laboratories. The WRGL is closely integrated with the Wessex Clinical Genetics Service (WCGS), located at the Princess Anne Hospital, Southampton, and the Human Genetics Division (HGD), part of the University of Southampton School of Medicine.
The WRGL and WCGS together form a single hub within the UK Genetic Testing Network. Our primary purpose is the diagnosis, management and prevention of inherited and acquired genetic conditions. We are also committed to research into the underlying causes of genetic disease so that new ways to diagnose, ameliorate or prevent these conditions may be developed in the future.

The UK Genetic Testing Network is part of the National Health Service of Great Britain and therefore part of a non-profit making organisation. This web site provides details of what is available from this CPA accredited laboratory (WRGL) and clinical service (WCGS).

This web site is primarily aimed at referring Clinicians and those who work in other diagnostic and research establishments. Links for members of the public who may encounter this site are also provided.
